These photos were featured in the Montana Tech's alumni magazine for a story highlighting the graduate school research being conducted in the UMEC(Underground Mining Education Center) under the campus.

Delaware Bay Microplastics

University of Delaware graduate students and professor Jon Cohen shipped out from the Lewes campus dock to track microplastics in the Delaware Bay via the R/V Joanne Daiber, one of the University's research vessels. They released a dozen floating sensors that will be tracked and logged using a live satellite feed. During the 10 hours out on the water, they also took water samples in mason jars to be tested later in the lab.

Montana Technological University Students/Labs

This is a collection of mostly student candids from Montana Technological University. Ranging from sporting events to classes and labs to events, these photos help highlight what makes Montana Tech so unique and special. Candids truly bring out the life and realness to moments that I was fortunate enough to help cement in time with my camera.

Joe Biden Inauguration Day

On Jan. 20th a co-worker and I took the train down to Washington D.C.  from Wilmington, DE to photograph any protests/riots surrounding, President elect, Joe Biden's Inauguration Day. This was weeks after the storming of the Capitol was led by Trump supporters protesting the electoral vote count. Thousands of military personnel and police were stationed around barbed wire fencing that wrapped entirely around D.C. This is a collection of what photos I could manage to take at an attempt to help paint what the scene looked like during Biden's Inauguration Day.

Montana Technological University Board of Regents Video

Tasked with compiling an all-encompassing video of Montana Tech to show off at an important yearly board of regents meeting, I reached out to varying areas around the university and filmed interviews of faculty and students. It was an honor to show off why Montana Tech genuinely is as great as it is. All of the students were amazing to work with. Except Amos. Amos if you're seeing this, you were a pain brother.

Stop AAIP Hate Philly4Solidarity Rally

This rally in protest of AAPI(Asian American Pacific Islander) hate crimes was held by the non-profit organization, Philly4Solidarity, in Philadelphia. The rally began in Philly's China town with messages from local supporters and AAPI speakers from the community then marched to the Capital building where more peaceful protests continued. The effect COVID had on AAPI communities throughout the country was especially rough, not just because of the virus, but also due to targeted hate crimes being committed at an elevated rate. This rally, amongst numerous others throughout the country, acted as crucial platforms to make sure AAPI voices were heard and stances were made against the targeted hate crimes happening in their communities.

Becca Richtman Track and Field

Becca Richtman helped put the Montana Tech Track and Field on the map. This shoot was for an alumni magazine edition cover/feature. Between 2021 and 2022 she placed top three in over 28 races and first place in 17 races. Graduating in 2022, her run at Montana Tech has ended, however the history she made for the school remains along with her legacy as the school's best runner to date.

Montana Folk Festival

This is a collection of photos from the 2022 Montana Folk Festival held in Butte, Montana. There was a plethora of performers from all over the globe. It rained during one afternoon of performances, but overall everyone was having a great time sharing and experiencing the unique music.

Lesar Family Nursing Simulation Lab

Montana Tech received an 8 million dollar donation for a brand new Nursing Simulation Center. Opening in the Spring of 2022, the new sim center will be crucial in giving nursing students realistic hands-on training on campus. A perk that few nursing programs around the country can say they also have.

Montana Tech Reg Rally Hype Video

Short hype video intended for prospective students to watch when waiting in the meeting room while on campus for tours.

Montana Underground Mining Education Center

Montana Tech is one of the only Universities in the whole country that has an actual underground classroom in a mine. Students in the Mining Engineering and Geological Engineering degrees study and run experiments down in the active mine. Anything from mineral sampling to wall blasts occur throughout the year in the old copper mine that sits underneath the current campus.

ARL Rare Earth Elements Extraction Research

Funded by the ARL(Army Research Lab), students in the Materials and Metallurigal Engineering department worked on methods to efficiently extract rare earth elements from ore, slag and general composites. Both pyrometallurgy and hydrometallurgy are used in these procedures. These photos were taken for a story highlighting the partnership with the ARL and Montana Tech that was featured in their alumni magazine.

Recovery of the Clark Fork Ecosystem

Montana Tech researchers are using paired environmental DNA and comprehensive geochemical survey techniques to better understand the complex communities for insight into the health of the Clark Fork watershed. This project was spearheaded by Dr. Alysia Cox through the Laboratory Exploring Geobiochemical Engineering and Natural Dynamics(LEGEND). Pictured are students collecting samples and data direction for the watershed. These photos were part of a series of stories on both web and print celebrating the Environmental department's 50 year at Montana Tech.

Montana Tech Environmental Engineering Department 50th video

Montana Tech celebrated their 50th year being a department at the university. This video features b-roll and interview clips from members of the department to highlight the great research they do and how important the department has been over the years.

Milford Neck Preserve Bird Banding

Delaware State University graduate students, Aya Pickett and Amanda Crandall, spend three days out of the week during the fall and spring seasons capturing and banding migratory birds at Milford Neck Preserve in lower Delaware for graduate research. This project is mostly funded by the Delaware Sea Grant and aims to add to the growing pool of research already established to help learn more about and conserve bird species.

This video from 2021 highlights how they go about safely banding the song birds, from the net capture to the banding and releasing. It also shows how their research plays into the bigger role of conserving these migratory birds through the banding process.

Pea Patch Island Living Shoreline

University of Delaware graduate students alongside Dr. Jack Puelo installed a "living shoreline" along one part of Pea Patch Island's beach. This project required expertise in land management, civil/environmental engineering as well as landscape architecture. The goal of the project is to adequately analyze if living shorelines such as these will be a viable and more eco-friendly alternative to minimizing erosion along wake heavy coastal areas in the Delaware Bay.

Montana Tech Sustainable Water Treatment Kombucha

Montana Tech Environmental Engineering student, Emily Rutledge, works in the lab on the University's on-going water treatment project. This project is motivated by the drive to have more sustainable environmentally-friendly ways to treat water out in the field. The team of researchers for the project uses the symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast that forms while brewing kombucha tea as a living water filtration membrane.

Horseshoe Crab Flipping at Pickering Beach

This story followed pharmaceutical officials flipping over horseshoe crabs on Pickering Beach in Dover, DE. This annual event was held to show the officials and scientists working with horseshoe crab blood in labs what the species looks like in the wild. the Delaware bay is the only place in the world that these creatures migrate to the shore and mate. They have done this for hundreds of thousands of years, without fail.

Delaware State Park Winter InstaMeet at Cape Henlopen State Park

As a Delaware State Park Volunteer Photographer, I helped shoot the DSP InstaMeet held at Cape Henlopen State Park. Over 200 visitors were led on an educational walk along the park's beach during the sunset. We walked along part of the beach leading up to "The Point", which after that day would close for the season to allow for migratory shore birds to peacefully nest.
